The Distance Makes Us Stronger
April 7, 2020
Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the president has extended the social distancing guidelines through April 30th. Without school and many day to day activities, many are feeling hopeless. All aspects of life are being affected throughout this tough time. Physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally, this is extremely tough, and the only way in which we can get through this is to come together.
Living in a small community like Poland allows us to show one another support through small acts of kindness. Although the community is incapable of physically coming together, many people in the community and nationwide have shown a positive light on this subject. For example, many have put bears in their windows, hearts on their doors, and even American flags in their yards: all to show support.
While continuing to practice social distancing, many people in the community have shown a sign of hope through these small acts. Although it has to be under such sad circumstances, my family and I have spent much more time together, and we can go on lots of walks at night. This is a learning experience for us all, and I believe that many people have realized they take for granted the small things in life.
Looking around at our community, I see more people outdoors and being given the time we don’t usually have to appreciate their loved ones even if you aren’t able to be with some of them. By participating in these acts, we are showing our healthcare workers that we support them and all of the sacrifices they are making daily throughout this time to get our country back on its feet.
